When I met Emily for the first time to talk about her family session, I knew right away we were going to have a lot of fun planning!  Emily is full of creative ideas!  I loved trading emails, sharing Pinterest boards and putting together a session that reflected their sweet family of three. Every prop that made it’s way into their session had a special connection to their family – from childhood books to homemade bubbles (stored in a mason jar with a handcrafted wand) to a red wagon that allowed for constant playfulness.  Even our location and the golden hour played an important role.  We could not have asked for a better evening and as always, I didn’t want our session to end.  We finally had to stop shooting as darkness crept in and darling Izzy began to rub her eyes.  :)  Emily and David, I loved spending the evening with you.  Izzy is beyond adorable and a joy to capture on camera.  Thank you for such a fun session!

I can’t even describe how much I enjoyed photographing the Hayes family!  They are all about fun! They genuinely love being together as a family.  Our session was full of laughter and games (and a little dancing).  We traveled along the beach, stopped for a few photos, talked, found more beach treasures and continued to sneak in pictures.  Our session was completely relaxing – we were just happy to be out in the sunshine on the most beautiful day of the year.  Sessions like these make me feel so blessed to be a photographer.  I feel very honored to spend time photographing families.  I love being able to capture emotion and all the little pieces that define each special family.  Nick and Angela, thank you again for such a memorable session!  :)

I started dreaming about this session after Jayme from Lillipops Designs contacted me to shoot her new ‘Joy’ dress.  I LOVE shooting for Jayme and was thrilled when she sent me a picture of the new dress!  I immediately wanted her design to take center stage.  My plans for her session were all about simplicity.  I normally enjoy a few props, but between the colorful dress and stunning location, I decided less is more.  I had just scouted this location the week prior and I couldn’t wait to shoot in the sun-lit fields.  Thankfully, we had a stretch of sunshine which is quite rare this time of year in the Pacific Northwest.  My daughter is always up for a fun session (and a new dress) so we set out for an evening adventure.  She played, I shot, we both ran through fields as the last rays of light dipped below the horizon.  It was one of those magical sessions – filled with joy.  As my daughter blew dandelions and made wishes, I watched and felt a wave of thankfulness.  Every time I look at these images, I will remember our memorable time together.  :)

Yvonne - Gorgeous light and images! And that dress is so Cute! Nice job…love the location!!May 5, 2013 – 7:34 pm

what spring looks like

What spring looks like……
When I see dandelions, I always think of spring.  Spring in the Pacific Northwest is full of dandelions, brilliant green and fleeting sunny days.  Every year I feel like I experience Spring for the first time.  I always forget the smells and sights of Spring.  It’s a happy surprise each April.
I chose this one image to represent Spring – joyfulness, golden light and child-like wonder.  This is what spring looks like to me.  :)
